Not only are we capturing one of the biggest moments in a couple’s story, but we also get to be part of the planning process long before the actual surprise happens! Brandt reached out to us about capturing his proposal to Sophie at Rosewood Miramar Beach, and from the very beginning we knew it was going to be an unforgettable evening.

Planning the Perfect Proposal at Rosewood Miramar Beach
From the start, Brandt knew exactly where he wanted to propose. He had booked a special dinner reservation at the Revere Room beforehand, which made Rosewood Miramar Beach the perfect location for such an important moment. The property is absolutely stunning, and every corner feels timeless and elegant. Honestly, every time we photograph there, we leave dreaming about photographing a wedding on the grounds someday!
What made this proposal especially fun to plan was how thoughtful Brandt was throughout the entire process. He wanted every detail to feel meaningful to Sophie. In fact, he even managed to save some of her Pinterest inspiration so we could get a better sense of what she was naturally drawn to. That was incredibly helpful because it allowed us to create an experience that felt authentic to them as a couple.
As photographers, helping with proposal logistics is one of our favorite parts of the process. We love guiding our clients through timelines, location choices, and all of the little details that help everything run smoothly. Then, seeing all of that planning come together in real time is always the best reward!
The Surprise Engagement at Rosewood Miramar Beach
Thankfully, everything came together perfectly!
The weather had been unpredictable leading up to the proposal, yet the clouds cleared at just the right time and gave us the most beautiful sunset. Meanwhile, Sophie had absolutely no idea what was about to happen.
The moment Brandt got down on one knee was so emotional to witness. Her reaction was completely genuine, and you could immediately feel how excited they both were. Those first few minutes after the proposal are always some of our favorite moments to photograph because nothing is forced. Couples are simply soaking everything in and realizing their lives just changed forever.
Candid Engagement Photos on the Beach
Afterward, we spent time walking along the beach and documenting this brand new chapter for them. Rather than focusing on overly posed images, we guided them through playful movement and natural interactions. Because of that, their gallery feels effortless and full of genuine emotion. They laughed, celebrated, held each other close, and took time to enjoy being officially engaged. Some of our favorite images from the evening came from those quiet in-between moments when they forgot the camera was even there.
The coastal setting, soft sunset light, and relaxed atmosphere made Rosewood Miramar Beach the perfect backdrop for their engagement photos. Every image feels joyful, romantic, and true to who they are together.
A Weekend Full of Celebration
As if the proposal itself wasn't exciting enough, the celebrations continued the next morning! Their families surprised them with brunch at an Airbnb in Santa Barbara, which made the entire weekend feel even more meaningful. You could tell how loved and supported they are by the people around them. Seeing them celebrate with family after such a special evening was the perfect way to begin this next season of life together.
Brandt and Sophie are truly the sweetest pair, and we feel so grateful that we were trusted to capture such a precious chapter in their story. Moments like these are exactly why we love photographing proposals so much.
