Samantha and Jay’s Arroyo Grande engagement session felt personal from the very beginning! Not only did we get to explore her family’s gorgeous property tucked into the backroads of Arroyo Grande, but we also got to photograph them in the exact place where they first met. The first few photos we took together on the little path were actually taken where their story started, which made the whole session feel even more special!

Right away, the energy between them felt easy and playful. They weren’t trying to force anything or make the session overly posed. Instead, they just leaned into this exciting season of engagement and focused on being together. Because of that, everything felt natural from start to finish! One of our favorite things about this Arroyo Grande engagement session was how every part of the property had a completely different feel. It honestly felt like we were exploring multiple locations in one evening!

Exploring Samantha’s Family Property

We started around the backyard and barn area, which immediately gave the session such a relaxed and nostalgic feel. Then as we kept wandering, we made our way into the redwoods, which completely changed the mood in the best way. The light filtering through the trees felt so dreamy and cinematic!

After that, we headed into a wide open green field filled with wildflowers. This part of the property was seriously stunning. There was so much space to run around and let moments unfold naturally, which always creates some of my favorite images during engagement sessions. Later in the evening, we ended underneath the oak trees using Samantha’s grandmother’s handmade blanket, which added such a sentimental touch!

Favorite Moments From This Arroyo Grande Engagement Session

There were so many moments from this Arroyo Grande engagement session that stood out to us, but we especially loved the photos of them in the brush with the giant oak tree in the background. Something about the scale of the landscape compared to the two of them felt so timeless and romantic! We also loved the photos of them leaning against the wood fence. Those images felt playful, effortless, and very true to their relationship. You could tell they were completely comfortable together, which always translates beautifully on camera.

Throughout the entire session, Samantha and Jay kept laughing, joking around, and fully embracing the experience together. Even when we were walking from one area to another, they stayed connected the whole time. Those in-between moments honestly ended up being some of my favorites!

Sessions like this always remind us why meaningful locations matter so much. Of course, beautiful scenery is amazing, but when a place already holds memories for a couple, the photos instantly feel more emotional and personal.
